Richard Makowiec, MD
Dr. Richard Makowiec brings more than 25 years of practice experience to Indiana Joint Replacement Institute in hand and upper extremity surgery. He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery with a Subspecialty Certificate in Orthopaedic Surgery of the Hand. He served as a staff orthopedic surgeon in the United States Navy and as an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern University. Dr. Makowiec has served on numerous committees and leadership positions throughout his career including serving as the Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery Division and Vice President of Medical Staff at Franciscan Health Indianapolis – Mooresville Hospital.
Dr. Makowiec was born and raised in Michigan. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Makowiec completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago, IL and completed his Fellowship at the Indiana Hand Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Dr. Makowiec provides care for many orthopedic problems of the hand, wrist and elbow.

In his free time Dr. Makowiec enjoys skiing, hiking, fishing and cycling and being in the outdoors with his family and friends.
