Dr. T. David Luo is a board eligible orthopedic surgeon specializing in total hip replacement, total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, computer navigated/robotic joint replacement, and revision hip and knee replacement at our Fort Wayne location. His approach to patient care is a compassionate, evidence-based, patient-centered approach. It is his mission to help patients regain function and return to the activities they love. Joint arthritis is an extremely debilitating disease for our patients, many of whom face barriers to accessing high quality care. That is why he is dedicated to offering a supportive and effective treatment environment right here in the greater Fort Wayne region. By combining the latest advancements in technology with evidence-based practices, he aims to provide our patients with the highest standard of care tailored to their unique needs. Together, we can work towards improving our patients’ quality of life and getting them back to doing what they enjoy most.
Dr. Luo was born in Shanghai, China but grew up in Fort Wayne, and graduated from Northrop High School. He completed his undergraduate studies at Purdue University, and then obtained a medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. Prior to residency training, he spent time at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic as an orthopaedic research fellow. His research interests led him to Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC where he served as a resident physician in the Physician Scientist Training Program, while also obtaining his Ph.D in Molecular Medicine & Translational Science. Dr. Luo completed two fellowships, his first was an adult hip and knee reconstruction fellowship at the University of Western Ontario, London Health Sciences Centre in Canada. He followed that with a prestigious European traveling fellowship awarded by the M.E. Müller Foundation of North America, where he spent time learning the latest techniques in treating periprosthetic joint infections at the world-famous ENDO-Klinik in Hamburg, Germany. He gained further training in the latest robotic-assisted surgical techniques under the tutelage of Professor Fares Haddad in London, England.
Dr. Luo is dedicated to clinical research and has held clinical research positions at Purdue University, Indiana University School of Medicine and Mayo Clinic’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has written more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, 140 abstracts and presented more than 30 oral presentations. His list of clinical topics is impressive. They include pediatric and adolescent knee arthroscopy, nerve blocks, revision surgeries, bone loss, return to play outcomes for athletes and best practices for sports medicine injuries, opioid prescription practices, postoperative complications, joint infection and reinfection risks, total hip implants, two and three-dimensional hip arthroplasty, total hip techniques, patient outcomes for hip surgery and robotics in knee and hip arthroplasty.
Outside of work, Dr. Luo enjoys spending time with his wife, Alissa, and two children. Dr. Luo is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Shanghainese and his interests include international medicine, traveling, cooking and volunteering.
