Anthony Sorkin, MD
Dr. Anthony Sorkin brings more than 25 years of clinical experience in fracture care and limb reconstruction to the Indiana Orthopedic Institute. He also has vast experience and leadership in medical expense mitigation while working in administrative roles at Indiana University Health. Dr. Sorkin will be serving as the Medical Director of Fracture Care/Traumaplasty and the Medical Director of Value-Based Care at the Indiana Orthopedic Institute.
Dr. Sorkin’s areas of expertise include pelvic and limb reconstruction, including unhealed, malunited, and infected extremity fractures. He also specializes in both operative and non-operative management of ankle/foot post-traumatic pain and deformity.
Dr. Sorkin was born in Columbus, OH and raised in Annapolis, MD. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. Dr. Sorkin received his medical degree from the University of Maryland and completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore, MD. He then completed two Orthopedic fellowships in traumatology: the first at The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY followed by the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD.
Over the years, Dr. Sorkin has served in several leadership positions at Indiana University Health including Executive Medical Director of Population Health and System Medical Director for the Orthopedic Service Line.
He also served five years as the Orthopedic Traumatology Program Director at Indiana University Health/Methodist Hospital. Dr. Sorkin started his career in Northern Illinois creating the Orthopedic Trauma Service at OrthoIllinois and serving as the Program Director for 13 years.
Dr. Sorkin was recently distinguished as one of the Top 25 U.S. Care Innovators by Modern Health Care Magazine after leading Indiana University Health’s post-acute care strategy during the COVID pandemic. He has also been recognized as a Top Doctor in Orthopedic Surgery multiple times.
Dr. Sorkin also served in several clinical teaching positions and has had faculty appointments at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Rush University Medical Center, and the University of Illinois School of Medicine. He has participated in multiple research projects resulting in more than 35 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.
